This has to be the best writing on the New York Dolls ever even blowing Nick Kent the NME writer out of the water, but thank god we had him in the UK at the time. The title for his review of their first album was 'Welcome To The Fabulous Seventies' In 1975 I dreamt the sound of Television before 'Little Johnny Jewel' my dream took their angular looks and turned them into music, I sent my review of it to Nick Kent he never replied. The only review I saw of Little Johnny Jewel' was Peter Laughner in Creem magazine.

I just read that David Johansen died yesterday.

(Got permission to reprint these before I knew he was sick, just wanting to make some of my older work available. Hearing David was ill propelled me to actually do it.)

Here's the link to a Xgau piece that matters to me, 1973. "Whereas suffering made Jagger tough and distant, Johansen remains vulnerable and close."

Thank you so much. I think that's so great that you *dreamed* a sound for Television based on how they looked. (I was in a writers group in the '00s and '10s, and one of the experiments I tried with it was showing either a picture of a band or just telling the band's name and song title and then we would each write a review of how the band sounded just based on that, the photo or the name and title.)
